Latihan Past Continuous Tense

 

Pada kesempatan ini kita melanjutkan materi tentang past continous tense ya? Mari kita bahasa satu persatu dan bagaimana penggunaanya?

A. Penggunaan Past contiuous Tense

1) Tense ini digunakan untuk menyatakan peristiwa yang terjadi pada waktu tertentu di masa lampau.

Pola kalimatnya: 

(+) S + was/were + Verb ing + C

(-) S + was/were + not + Verb ing + C

(?) Was/Were + S + Verb ing + C?

Subject 

He, She, It, I------> was

They, We, You --------> were

Example: 

1. I was reading a book at 5 p.m yesterday.

2. They were playing football all day yesterday.

3. She was cooking at this time yesterday.

2) Biasanya Past continuous tense digunakan secara bersamaan dengan Past tense. Jika peristiwa continuous tense terpotong oleh peristiwa yang lain yang durasinya lebih pendek. Digunakan kata sambung 'when atau while". 

Maka pola yang digunakan adalah:

When + Subject1 + was/were +verb ing, Subject2 + V2 + C

Subject 1 + V2 + C when Subject2 + was/were + Verb ing

atau 

While + Subject1 + was/were +verb ing, Subject2 + V2 + C

Subject 1 + V2 + C while Subject2 + was/were + Verb ing

Example:

1. She was reading a novel when the accident happened.

2. The guest knocked the door when Mrs. Anita was cooking.

3) Menunjukkan 2 peristiwa yang berlangsung bersamaan di masa lampau. Kedua kalimat menggunakan past continuous tense.

Maka pola yang digunakan adalah:

When + Subject1 + was/were +verb ing, Subject2 + was/were +verb ing + C

Subject 1 + was/were +verb ing+ C when Subject2 + was/were + Verb ing

atau 

While + Subject1 + was/were +verb ing, Subject2 + was/were +verb ing + C

Subject 1 + was/were +verb ing + C while Subject2 + was/were + Verb ing

Example:

1. My father was watching TV when my mother was making fried banana.

2. They were playing scrabbles while their friends were playing hide and seek.

B. Kata Keterangan waktu

Kata Keterangan waktu yang biasa digunakan dalam Past Continuous Tense adalah antara lain; 

at this time yesterday

at 5 am this morning

all day yesterday

in July
