The Golden Cucumber
Once upon a time, in a small village in Java, there lived a childless old couple. They prayed every day to have a child. One day, an old woman visited them and gave them a magical seed, promising that it would grant their wish.
The couple planted the seed, and to their amazement, a golden cucumber grew. When they cut it open, a beautiful baby girl emerged. They named her Timun Mas, which means "Golden Cucumber."
As Timun Mas grew older, an evil giant heard of her beauty and decided to eat her. The giant visited the village and threatened to take Timun Mas away. Fearing for their daughter's safety, the old couple prepared magical items for Timun Mas to use as protection against the giant.
When the giant came to take Timun Mas, she ran away. The giant chased her, but Timun Mas threw the magical items given by her parents. The first item was a bag of salt. When the salt was scattered, it turned into a vast salt sea that the giant had to cross. The second item was a bag of chili peppers. When the chili peppers were scattered, they grew into a forest of chili plants so hot that the giant had to stop and cool himself down. The third item was a bag of thorns. When the thorns were scattered, they grew into a dense thorny bush that trapped the giant.
Finally, exhausted and defeated, the giant fell into a deep pit and died. Timun Mas was safe and returned home to her parents. She lived happily ever after with them in the village.
Moral of the story: Always be prepared for any danger that may come your way. Courage and wit can help you overcome any obstacle.
