STATE HISTORICAL MUSEUM

The State Historical Museum, which is located in 600 East Locus Des Moines Iowa, serve as an exciting place where Iowans and other visitors can experience the past.
The State Historical Museum has state—of-the-art exhibits which allow visitors to explore the past in a way never have before. The interactive exhibits enable visitors to see, hear and even touch Iowa’s history. Another of the building’s attraction is the library and archieve, where genealogical and historical researchers uncover the past. The visitors may want to browse in the Museum Store and at the Café.

Krakatoa

Krataoa is one of the volcanoes of the Sunda volcanic arc. The volcano was formed by the subduction of the Indian. Australian Plate under the Euroasian Plate.
Krakatau (Krakatoa) is located in the Sunda Strait, 40 km of the west coast of Java on the Island of Rakata in Indonesia. The geographical coordinates of Krakatoa are 16.7 South Latitude and 105.4 East Longitude.
At its peak, Krakatoa reached a high of 790 m (2,600 ft) above sea level. Its first known eruption occurred in 416 A.D. However, this eruption destroyed the volcano of Krakatoa which collapsed and formed a four-mile wide caldera. The islands of Verlaten and Lang are remnants of this older volcano. Subsequently, three volcanoes combined to form the island of Krakatau.

There is a new hotel in my city. It is a four star hotel. It is located downtown.
            The hotel is not very big but the architecture is very beautiful. It looks like a classic castle in Europe. According to the brochure, it has 100 rooms, a fancy restaurant, complete sports facilities including a swimming pool, tennis court, gym and sauna, there are also a coffee shop and a karaoke room.
            The picture of the rooms in the brochure are very nice. The rooms look very comfortable. It they contain a big spring bed with big pillows, a nice sofa, a wardrobe and a television system with programmes from all over the world. The bathroom is very beautiful although it is not very big. It has a bath tub with hot and cold water so guest can bath in it comfortably.
            The brochure say” Hospitality is our trademark.” The staff of that hotel, from the receptionist, house keepers, and bellboys are trained to be polite and to help guests in any way they can.

“The Earth’s greatest gorge”, the Grand Canyon is located in northwestern Arizona. Its vastness is 217 mile long, and its widest spans over 17 miles across. It is not surprising that it has been designated one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
The walls of the canyon are made of limestone, sandstone, lava and other rocks. As the day passes the rocks reflect different colors. Many tourists come to the canyon just to watch the rocks change color.
Cottonwood and willow trees grow at the bottom of the canyon. Many varieties of cactus grow here as well. The canyon is also home to many animals, such as bobcats, coyotes, kangaroo rats and deer.
Today about 4 million visitors come to the Grand Canyon each year. Seeing the Grand Canyon is always a breathtaking and unforgettable experience.

Lake Toba
Lake Toba is the largest lake in Southeast Asia. It is on the attitude of 800 meters above the sea level, 100 kilometers long, and 30 kilometers wide. It is situated in the caldera of the huge. Toba volcano which erupted approximately 75.000 years ago.

The erution was one of the most massive eruptions ever on earth. Many scientists believe that this eruption was triggered in the last ice age. The eruption probably lasted two weeks until the volcano collapsed. Then it formed a caldera which is now Lake Toba. The bottom of the volcano rose and formed the island of Samosir.
