Simple Present Tense

A. Definisi

The simple present tense is used to express general truths, habitual actions, routines, or facts that are always true. It is formed differently for regular and irregular verbs.

I play the piano. (habitual action)

The sun rises in the east. (general truth)

She works at the hospital. (routine or regular action)

We don't usually eat out. (negative habitual action)

Does he speak Spanish? (interrogative for general ability)

B. Pola Kalimat Simple Present Tense:

# Kata Kerja Bantu (to be)

Positive: S + is/am/are + O + A

Negative: S + is/am/are + not + O + A

Interrogative : Is/Am/Are + S + O + A ?

He, She, It ------> is

I ------------------> am

They, We, You ---> are

# Kata Kerja (Verb)

Positive: S (He, She, It) + V1+s/es + O + A

               S (They, We, You, I) + V1 + O + A

Negative: S (He, She, It) + does + not + V1+ O + A

               : S (They, We, You, I) + do + not + V1+ O + A

Interrogative : Does + S (He, She, It) + V1 + O + A ?

                      : Do + S (They, We, You, I) + V1 + O + A ?

He, She, It ------> is

I ------------------> am

They, We, You ---> are

C. Penggunaan Kata Keterangan Waktu

Kata keterangan waktu yang sering digunakan dalam Simple Present Tense melibatkan rutinitas atau kejadian yang terjadi secara teratur. Berikut adalah beberapa contoh kata keterangan waktu yang dapat digunakan dengan Simple Present Tense:

  • Setiap Hari: Every day/Daily
  • Setiap Minggu:Every week/Weekly
  • Setiap Bulan:Every month/Monthly
  • Setiap Tahun:Every year/Yearly
  • Selalu: Always
  • Seringkali: Often
  • Biasanya:Usually
  • Jarang: Rarely

D. Contoh Kalimat Simple Present Tense

  1. I brush my teeth every day.
  2. She reads the newspaper daily.
  3. We have a meeting every week.
  4. They visit their grandparents weekly.
  5. He pays the rent every month.
  6. The magazine is published monthly.
  7. We celebrate our anniversary every year.
  8. The festival is held yearly.
  9. She always arrives on time.
  10. I always take a walk in the evening.
  11. They often go to the movies.
  12. I often visit my friends.
  13. I usually have coffee in the morning.
  14. He usually wears a suit to work.
  15. She rarely eats fast food.

g. Mix of Changes:

1.       We usually go to the beach on Sundays. (Positive to Negative and Interrogative)

2.       He rarely misses his train. (Positive to Negative and Interrogative)

3.       She always arrives early for the class. (Positive to Negative and Interrogative)
